Tiaxa has made an important commitment to the children who survived Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in the Philippines, through Dr. Honey Carandang’s MLAC Psychosocial Services. Haiyan, one of the strongest storms on records, struck the Visayas region in November, devastating many islands and towns, and leaving more than 5,000 casualties. Through MLAC, Tiaxa will help finance a psychological rehabilitation program and trauma counseling for a target 350 children. MLAC’s main advocacy centers on the welfare of children, particularly those who are living in challenging circumstances, and has developed a long-term program based on the experience of working with the survivors of Typhoon Washi in 2011 and Typhoon Bophi in 2012.
